And Jesus said, “See that you are not led astray. For many will come in My Name, saying, ‘I am He!’ and ‘The time is at hand!’
Do not go after them.”
What is the purpose of God’s Prophetic Word?
Regardless of what false prophets may say, God’s prophetic Word is not a mystical calendar – but it is a Divine wake-up call – like the one people failed to heed in the days of Noah. It’s a call to pray and hear The Word of God Who always told us what was going to happen and who remains triumphantly in control.
There will be a multitude of false teachers and Bible editors.
God knows them before they are born and gives us His Word and His Holy Spirit to protect us from following them on their path to destruction.
Centuries ago, God warned of the faithlessness, moral confusion, ethical anarchy rearing their ugly heads in America and throughout the world today -.
Jesus warns His disciples and us “Do not go after them. And when you hear of wars and tumults do not be terrified, for these things must first take place, but the end will not be at once.” The first of those wars will result in the destruction of the temple and of Jerusalem – but Jesus’ followers must not be terrified. God knows all that is going to happen – God’s Plans are not altered in any way.
Then Jesus said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom.” I am 80 years old – and there has never been a single one of those years that has been free of wars in multiple places – and very few years when our nation has not been involved somewhere. And Jesus says the worst is yet to come.
“And there will be earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.”We have surely seen the forces of nature unleashed upon our world – reminding us how fragile human temporal existence can be. We have surely seen that even in this age celebrating the finest achievements of human intellect, we are defeated by the forces of nature and still unable to wipe out all famine and destroy all pestilence – and fires rage across the land.
Still the only hope – the only Truth – lies in The Word of God incarnate in Jesus Christ and inerrant in The Truth in God’s Holy Bible. And – as the end approaches what does Jesus say of how His Word will be received.
“But before all this they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to synagogues and prisons and you will be brought before kings and governors for My Name’s Sake.”
Ten of the original 12 disciples would suffer persecution and be slain for their faith. Only John would die of old age and he would end his temporal life living in exile.
During the past few decades, there has been a terrible increase in the number of people martyred for their faith in Jesus Christ – entire congregations killed -- their churches burned to the ground as they worshiped – missionaries imprisoned and even executed – terrorist attacks on Christian communities.
Even here in America, there never been a time in our nation’s history when The Holy Bible and Christian prayer have been under as great an attack as we are seeing today. And the Christian Church itself often capitulates and even participates in blaming every citizen and even weapons for the evil acts of those who attack others for their beliefs.
God’s prophetic landscape painting offers the darkest of clouds – for God say’s it’s going to get worse before it gets better.
But there is a sunrise in God’s prophetic landscape for God remains in charge and, in the end, there is God’s eternal victory for all who believe in Him.
20 Centuries and more ago, Jesus warned these times were coming.
God knows of these days and sends His Holy Spirit to prepare us for them and even proclaims “This will be your opportunity to bear witness.”
Jesus tells us that for God there are no surprises – God knows the entire history of our world – past, present, and future. Jesus tells us that, by the Grace of God, God shares that knowledge with us and prepares us completely for those times. Jesus tells us God remains in charge and that, for those who believe, God’s Own Hand is always at the helm of our own ship of life – now and eternally.
Jesus warns us not to be so impressed with the world’s splendor that we lose sight of the eternal. Jesus, our only true Temple, Priest and Sacrifice was laid low in the grave but rose again so we can live fearlessly. Jesus calls us to face the future with Christian Faith and to use every opportunity to bear witness.
THE PEACE OF GOD WHICH PASSES ALL HUMAN UNDERSTANDING KEEP YOUR HEARTS AND YOUR MINDS IN CHRIST JESUS — OUR LORD, OUR SAVIOUR — THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE OF US ALL NOW AND ETERNALLY. AMEN.
