I was also the chaplain at Oregon Cave so there is an even greater Light Whose power I was called to share that summer. At Wednesday night Bible studies and Sunday night worship services we worshiped and studied Jesus Who said “I am The Light of the world; whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have The Light of life.” How wondrous that God came to us as the vulnerable flesh
and blood Christ – The Light of the world making us constantly aware of God’s Presence in our lives.
Totally enlightening us, Jesus said, “If you continue in My Word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know The Truth, and The Truth will make you free.”
Like those eyes God created for us to take full advantage of even a spec of physical light, how wondrous the enlightened Faith God gives us to know The Truth and to live in true communion with The Light of the world throughout our lives now and eternally. Jesus Himself is The Truth which alone can make us truly free and Jesus Himself is The Light of life illuminating Himself as The Truth.
In Jesus is revealed God’s total and perfect Love for us. In Jesus, we see the perfect Life lived in contrast to our own imperfect lives and God’s willingness to sacrifice His perfect Life on the cross for our sins. In Jesus, we have perfect Enlightened Guidance.
Everything we need to know to truly live – now and eternally – as we were created, called, redeemed, and empowered by God to live is revealed in Jesus – The Light of the world.
God has created us and this entire universe and everything else that has ever been created. God knows how it all works - how God created everything - including our very lives - to work. Thank God, The Lord is happy to enlighten us with His Knowledge and Wisdom. He communes with us. He lovingly gives us Commandments to enlighten our path through life. He answers our every prayer. He constantly reveals His Presence in our lives. He constantly keeps His Promise - "whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have The Light of life".
God - Who said, “Let there be light”; and there was light – in the fullness of time – came to us as the vulnerable flesh and blood Christ – as The Light of the world. In Him - The Word made flesh - was Life, and the Life was the Light of mankind. (JOHN 1:4)
Few things in life are more obvious than the fact that light and darkness are truly opposites. When both are present, they compete and it is always light that wins. That one little match in Oregon Cave could shed light throughout that entire large room. While the light was there, the darkness had to retreat.
We live in a human world where spiritual darkness, theological darkness, moral darkness and ethical darkness are ever present. Human nature and sin are truly fertile soil in which darkness may truly flourish.
Jesus promised, “I am The Light of the world; whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have The Light of life.” When Jesus is present and His Word is taken seriously, the darkness is defeated. People can turn away from Jesus as the only true Light of the world - and continue to wallow in the darkness. There will always be those people who – loving the darkness -try to take the TEN COMMANDMENTS and even God’s true Presence in the world out of public places and public discussions and promote the darkness. God created us all free to reject THE LIGHT and give darkness the victory in individual lives.
But when people recognize the Presence of Jesus The Light of the world - The Light of life - and His Word is taken seriously, the darkness is always defeated.
THE PEACE OF GOD WHICH PASSES ALL HUMAN UNDERSTANDING KEEP YOUR HEARTS AND YOUR MINDS IN CHRIST JESUS - OUR LORD, OUR SAVIOUR, THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. AMEN.
