In May of 1966, the American Lutheran Church, Michigan District Convention was held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Clinton, Ohio. At this convention, Rev. Clarence Larson of the Toledo Board of Home Missions announced plans for a mission church on Catawba Island.
The new church was dedicated on March 5, 1967, as "Resurrection Lutheran Church".
Erwin Streng was the first pastor serving here until July of 1977. In January of 1978 Dr. Kurt W. Borows, Jr., has retired Jan. 2020 after 42 years of service.
The original church site contained 18 acres. Six of those acres were used for the church and parsonage. The remaining 12 acres were purchased and then donated to the church as a recreational area for the community. The park was dedicated in memory of Dr. John Braun.
It is a permanent park, pledged to recreational use. The park has several baseball fields, a tennis court, playground equipment and a shelter house. Many other activities are enjoyed in this park as well.
JOHN BRAUN PARK - In 1969, Mr. & Mrs. Sherman Titsworth made available to us the additional acreage adjacent to our church, making what is known as Dr. John E. Braun Memorial Park. This park was dedicated on September 27, 1970. This is a wonderful contribution to our church as well as to the community of Catawba Island and its youth.
